New York, by Rudolph RuzickaOnce upon a time the librarian at the Grolier Club of New York was surprised to find two boxes of old wood blocks. They were the original blocks engraved by Rudolph Ruzicka for the book "New York", published by the Grolier Club in 1915, and printed only once before, in Paris, by Emile Fequet. The engravings, like much of Mr Ruzicka's work, were printed in color from multiple blocks. Kenneth Auchincloss, an influential member of the club, was familiar with the work of a contemporary wood engraver who also worked in color. The lucky fellow was commissioned to print editions of the Ruzika images, and to produce a book celebrating New York City at the turn of the 21st century. The lucky fellow was me. "The author traces the evolution of New York in the 20th century. Along with the city’s enormous physical and social transformations, up to and including the events of September 11, Ken conveys the continuity of spirit and character of the 'New York Accent.' Two-and-a-half years in the making, New York Revisited is illustrated by the foremost contemporary artist in color wood engraving." –The Veatchs

"It's a testament to restrained elegance, and lovely to handle." -Simon Lawrence, The Fleece Press
